Remanufactured Blanchard Model 22-42 All Electric Allen Bradley PLC Controlled, Vertical Spindle Rotary Table Surface Grinder
Range: 46" diameter swing inside water guards by 24" high over 42" diameter
magnetic chuck with new segments. (The grinder can grind to the center of a 48"
diameter part utilizing "step grinding" techniques.
Base and Ways: Double wall rigid seal, annealed weldment with integral sloping
shelf to catch and discharge coolant and grinding swarf through two openings at
rear of grinder. A built-in base flushing system running continuously assists with
sludge discharge from base. Replaceable, rectangular, precision ground steel
ways mounted on base. Spread of ways is 38-1/2". Full-length steel way covers
provide protection from grinding sludge.
Table Body: Heavy, double wall, ribbed design, cast of close grain iron, carries
chuck. Rotation drive is through heat-treated spiral bevel gears. Alloy steel pinion
drives 24-1/2" diameter chuck rotation gear. Table ways are precision hand scraped.
Low friction, non-metallic, table bearing extends life of chuck bearing and reduces
start-up power requirement.
Magnetic Chuck: Blanchard one-piece steel magnetic chuck, 42" diameter, with
5/8" concentric pole spacing and 2" center hole. Magnetic chuck uses direct
current only, 115 volts DC, supplied by variable DC power supply. The DC power
supply, with remote control. provides the feature of infinitely variable magnetic
chucking holding power (0 to 60%) and full power (100%).
Precision flat circular bearing runs submerged in oil in table body. Workload up to
3000 pounds can be carried on magnetic chuck.
Table Traverse: By rack mounted on underside of table body, with pinion, through a
worm gear reduction box and direct-coupled high torque reversing motor. An electric
brake on the motor provides positive stop.
Chuck Rotation: Infinitely variable chuck rotation speed from 6 to 24 revolutions
per minute. Chuck rotation is driven by a 5 HP motor controlled from the operator's
panel. Speed may be changed during the grinding cycle without interrupting the
Wheel Head: A ribbed iron casting is the housing for the main spindle motor and
encloses and aligns the oversized spindle bearings. The 50 HP main spindle motor
consists of a commercial stator built into the head and a commercial rotor built on a
large Blanchard spindle with special ventilation. The anti-friction spindle bearings
are pre-loaded to 1,200 pounds to remove radial clearance and backlash. Large
head ways are fitted with three tapered gibs running the full length of the head ways.
A manually operated wheel dresser is mounted to the head and provides a means of
artificial wheel wear under control of the operator. A wheel guard is standard
Grinding Wheel Equipment: Cortland Style Segment Wheel Holder. Wheel holder uses five CDTL (11-1/4" by 3" by 6") segments per set.
Column: The heavy rigid box section column has precision vertical ways. A large
diameter feed screw is mounted between the ways to move the gibbed way wheel
head. This design provides as nearly as possible a "one-piece" construction. There
is no intermediate plate and no loose joints to allow vibration between the head and
Three Point Column Support: The Blanchard column contacts the base at three
widely spaced points to provide quick, accurate, adjustment of the grinding spindle
relative to the magnetic chuck. Three heavy bushings are threaded into the column
with calibrated washers to facilitate adjustment. Large hold-down bolts threaded
into the base assure rigidity and provide single unit construction of the head, column
and base to resist deflection under heavy grinding pressures.
Feed System: Electronic "Servo" Feed Systems commanded by the Allen Bradley PLC
Water Guards: 7 gauge sheet steel water guards enclose the grinding area to
confine coolant and control mist. The table water guard moves with the table to
reduce the open area during grinding for better mist control. Interlocking doors
open to provide straight-in loading of work parts. The column ways are protected in
the grinding area by telescoping steel guards.
Coolant System: "Dry" base design requires coolant storage outside of base.
Minimum 250 gallons recommended to allow optimum operation of grinder. No
coolant pumps or control for pumps are supplied as standard equipment. Quick
acting water valves, a solenoid valve and a wash hose are standard equipment.
Lubrication: Table and chuck bearing and table traverse gear box have oil
reservoirs. An Automatic TRABON grease lubrication is provided for lower spindle
bearing, column ways, feed screw, wheel dresser and base ways.
50 HP 720 RPM Built-in main Spindle Motor with Soft-Start and Dynamic Braking
5 HP TEFC Chuck Rotation Motor AC variable frequency spindle drive motor
AC servo motor for Head Feed and Rapid Traverse
AC servo motor with an electric brake for Table Traverse
Control Panel: Control Panel: Machine mounted NEMA 12 enclosure contains reduced
voltage starting and braking unit for wheel motor. Cabinet also contains programmable
controller, cycle controls, control transformer to provide 115 volt push button circuit
and non-fused disconnect switch interlocked with door. Machines comply with National
Fire Protection Associates Standard No. 79 for Metalworking Machine Tools and Plastics
1. F.P. Miller Company recommends that an independent, driven, ground rod be supplied
